The following list contains some of the more popular ghost hunting tools for recording ghostly phenomena.
Audio Recorders
Audio Recorders come in a variety of types, the two most commonly in use today are micro cassette recorders and digital recorders. Both types are great for EVP work, the digital recorders have the added function of being able to transfer the files directly to a PC without the need for re-recording. An invaluable tool for every ghost investigation this is one piece of equipment no serious ghost hunter should be without.
Still Cameras
A good quality still camera will help you capture pictures of ghosts. Film or digital doesn’t really matter, a film camera will give you a negative as proof of an unaltered photo; however, the more expensive digital cameras will save your photos in a RAW format which is almost as good as having a negative.
Video Cameras
Great for setting in an area of reported activity and let run for the length of the investigation, also great as a substitute for both still cameras and audio recorders. Some video cameras have a built in infra-red lamp for night time shooting, while this will give you about 3-5 meters of visible area in front of your camera, if you want to extend your field of view for nighttime shooting you should consider getting a separate powered infra-red lamp.
Thermal Imagers
Also a detection tool a Thermal Imager is basically a cross between a thermometer and a video camera, it produces a colour map of temperatures in its field of view, very precise and highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations it can help you detect hot and cold spots.
CCTV Cameras & Digital Video Recorders
A little more expensive but great for monitoring several areas at the same time, a multi-channel DVR with several cameras can allow your team to monitor several locations without the need to have a team member surveying the area for the whole investigation. Also, if you have shy ghosts that are only active when people are not present then this could provide the best solution for capturing that activity.
