EVP recordings fall in three basic classes, Class A, Class B and Class C. Which class your recording falls into will depend somewhat on your personal preference, while you may classify a recording as Class A or B, other investigators may put it in a Class C. With more practice and experience detecting and classifying EVP your choices will most likely concur with the paranormal research society at large. In any case it is more important when first starting out to be able to detect an EVP rather than to classify it, as when you make it public you will have a legion of investigators, ranging from novice to experienced, that will want to classify it for you.
The three classes of EVP as are follows:
Class A
An EVP that is clear enough that most people will agree on its content, also it should be loud enough (without processing) that it can be heard without headphones.
Class B
An EVP which there will be some disagreement on its content and requires headphones to be heard.
Class C
An EVP that needs some amplification and filtering to be heard, most often will be unintelligible, and will often be dismissed by the majority.
Obviously, Class C recordings are the most common, this may be due to a lot of recordings where background noise, or some form of noise contamination has occurred, and it is being interpreted as an EVP. However, this could also be the result of spirit contact and either the spirits did not possess the energy to provide a stronger recording, or the equipment was not sensitive enough.
Classes A and B are where most of the hoaxes live, people who try and cash in on or obtain fame from the paranormal will produce recordings that will fall into these two classes, while some will be easy to detect as fake, other are quite skilled in producing recordings which will fool the masses. It is unfortunate that this happens as it cheapens this important field of scientific study and makes it harder for the real evidence to be heard with an impartial audience.
Spirit photography is just that, a photograph of a spirit or entity. There is a plethora of photos on the internet purporting to be ghost photographs; some of these deserve legitimate study, while the majority are either misinterpretations or forgeries.
The most common photograph you will probably see is the orb photograph. In these photos you will see luminescent orbs that are reported to be spirit entities. The problem with these photos is that they are easily produced with digital cameras using a flash, the light reflects off of dust particles or even insects in the air and the results will be orbs. This isn’t to say that there are genuine orb photo’s out there; it’s just that this is the most common photo passed around as being a ghost photo.
